Work With Us
Whether you’re passionate about animals, exploring a career in animal care, or looking to join our dedicated team, we offer a range of opportunities to get involved behind the scenes here at Hamerton Zoo Park.
Working with wildlife is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also hard work. We look for enthusiastic, reliable individuals who are ready to roll up their sleeves and support the care and conservation of our diverse animal family.
On this page, you will find all of our information about Volunteering, Work Experience, and Career Opportunities.
Volunteering
Give your time. Gain hands-on experience.
Our volunteer programme is perfect for people with a strong interest in animal care who are looking to get involved on a regular basis.
You’ll join our keeping team one day a week and support daily routines such as cleaning, feeding, and caring for our animals. In return, you’ll learn new skills, gain insight into zoo operations, and become a valued part of our community.
What we ask from you:
Age 16 or over
Commit to 1 full day a week (8:30am–5:30pm) for at least 6 months
Attend a trial day including an informal interview
Understand that this is a voluntary, unpaid role and we are unable to cover travel or other expenses
Please note:
Opportunities start in 2026
Work Experience
Thinking of a career in animal care or zoology? Start here.
Our structured work experience placements are designed for students studying animal-related subjects at college or university. You’ll gain valuable real-world experience in the day-to-day care of exotic and endangered animals, working alongside our expert team.
