Let's Get Snapping!

Hamerton Zoo Park Photography Experience Days offer a unique chance to get up close with our diverse range of carnivores, and hone your photography skills in a relaxed, natural setting.

Ideal for both hobbyist and experienced photographers wishing to improve their wildlife photography skills, the experience will be supported by both our education officer and Helen Black, a wildlife photography specialist, to ensure that full support and insider knowledge is on hand.

What's The Day Like?

Arrival

On arrival, please come to the entrance and state that you’ve arrived for a photography day. You will then be shown through to the Education Centre, which will be ‘base camp’ for the day.

Helen and Megan will use this time to provide a safety briefing and photography presentation; providing last-minute tips and tricks before going out to see the animals.

Photography of a selection of species, chosen at our discretion. Helen and Megan, our Education Officer, will be on hand to help you during the session where you’ll also have the unique opportunity to enter areas usually restricted to staff access only.

You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or make use of our Coffee Shop, which serves a combination of hot and cold food and drinks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to participate?

Our photography sessions only cost £150, and include: A goodie bag; free hot drinks all day; a full day of guided photography with an experienced wildlife photographer; a unique opportunity to go into our ‘off-show’ areas, and get closer to our animals than ever before!

Our photography days run from 10am to 4pm, with an hour for lunch in the middle.

The photography workshop is a great opportunity to take photos of our animals, while learning about camera settings and other technical photographic aspects plus how knowing more about the animal species and their behaviour can help you to get great images.

The purpose of the session is to help you get better wildlife shots and is suitable for people at most levels, however you will need to be familiar with how your camera operates to get the most from the session.

Ideally you will have a DSLR or Mirrorless camera but a good bridge camera will also be suitable. Regarding lenses, the focal length will depend on how near we are to the animals but Helen usually uses her 100-500mm Canon lens with covers most occasions.
Remember to bring enough batteries to keep you going for 3 hrs of shooting and make sure you have an empty media card in your camera ready for all the shots you’ll be taking.

The session will still go ahead, wet fur can be very photogenic, just make sure you bring something waterproof to wear if the forecast is likely to bring rain as the session is fully outdoors.

In the past some great images have been taken during a rainy session and the animals are usually much less bothered by it than us!

Our sessions only run if a minimum number of four participants sign up, so we like to avoid cancellations wherever possible. If you need to cancel your booking, our terms are as follows:

Up to 7 days before the experience date, we provide the option to reschedule to a future session.

Less than 7 days before the experience date or in a case of non-attendance, there is no option to reschedule.

Refunds are only offered following Hamerton Zoo Park’s cancellation of a booked date, if no alternative date can be found.
