Stripy Snakes & Speedy Lizards...
09/05/2018
Historically, reptiles have never formed an important part of the animal collection at Hamerton. Apart from our Tortoises, they all arrived as unwanted pets or disposals from zoos. Over the next year or so we will move away from this approach, and will no longer be able to accept such donated reptiles. Some will be retained for educational sessions. Our reptile area will be slowly re-vamped as time allows, and enlarged to take a number of new species. The first of these is a pair of Red Mountain Rat Snakes, also called Thai Bamboo Rat Snakes. The female is young and still very small, so is behind the scenes until she has grown up a little more - but the male is now on exhibit and settling in. He is very beautiful and there is an evens chance you might see him out and about.
