'It's all go...'
30/06/2018
The prolonged recent dry weather has allowed us to make some head-way with the works delayed by the bad weather in March and April, and over the Easter holidays. We have a few more weeks work left on our new walk-through 'OUTBACK AVIARY', which we expect will be open to visitors around the summer school holidays. At 5000 square feet, it could be one of the countries largest budgie 'cages' and initially will house over 200 birds, our wild 'bush' Budgerigars and wild Zebra Finches. Other Australian parakeets and grass-finches will join them once the aviary is established. A number of other species will live here too, including some mammals in adjoining enclosures. Our Brush-tailed Possums have already moved in, and we hope they will be a little more visible in their new home. They seem very settled and the picture above was taken just this morning.
Although it will not be completely finished, and the birds will not have been released - we hope to be able to preview this new aviary at our private IZES evening meeting on 7th July.
Moving the Possums means that the finishing touches can now be made to the new complex of four enclosures opposite the new Cockatoo aviary - pending the arrival of their planned inhabitants, later in July.
