Binturongs Down Under...

We are delighted to hear that the two pairs of Hamerton born Javan Binturongs sent to Australia last month are doing well and have completed their statutory isolation period.
In recent years more Binturongs have been born at Hamerton than in all the other zoos in the UK put together, and our babies are now living in several other zoos and collections both here in the UK and abroad.
The two pairs sent to Australia are destined for Tasmania Zoo and the Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland. It is hoped that along with an earlier pair we sent to Hunter Valley Zoo, that these animals will found a new zoo population down under.
